This is how Village Plaza Dental/Gilday Dental Group is able to provide a warm and caring environment as well as high quality dental care.

Dental Cleaning

Dental cleaning's are performed by a hygienist or the dentists and will last about 40 minutes. Teeth cleanings include the removal of tartar & plaque from the tooth surface (scaling) and polishing. If needed we will conduct a deep cleaning below the gum line and smooth the root surface (root planing). A combination of electric scaling tools and hand tools are used. These modern techniques increase the effectiveness and efficiency of traditional dental scaling.

To keep plaque build-up in check you should see us every six months for a dental cleaning.

Deep Cleaning Gum Treatment

The periodontium is the foundation of teeth, gums, ligaments, and bone. If this is found to be unhealthy non-surgical gum treatment may be needed. An unhealthy periodontium has similar symptoms to gum disease (periodontitis). Some symptoms include:

•  Gums that are red and bleed easily.
•  Gums that are receding or pulling away from the teeth.
•  Consistently bad breath, loose or shifting teeth.

The periodontium cannot heal if the conditions that caused it to be unhealthy continue. With proper treatment and education the conditions that enable it to heal can be reestablished. Gum treatment may include:

•  Root planing,
•  Deep cleaning.
•  Local anesthetic.
•  Antibiotics.

Untreated gum disease will lead to more extensive surgeries and/or tooth extraction.

Teeth Sealants

Most teeth have narrow grooves in them teeth that are very hard to clean or cannot be cleaned with a toothbrush. The best solution to these minor imperfections is to fill them in and smooth them out. This type of cavity prevention uses sealants. The dentist cleans the tooth surface and uses sealant to fill in, smooth and seal the tooth surface so it can be cleaned by brushing. Untreated teeth are more likely to develop tooth decay and lead to a cavity which will require a filling or more serious corrective procedure.

Teeth Fillings

To repair a tooth damaged by tooth decay, fillings are used. The dentist removes the decayed portion of the tooth, cleans the area and add the filling material. Modern fillings are made from a composite (tooth colored) material. Traditional amalgam (silver colored) or gold can also be used, but they are easily noticeable because they do not match the color of your teeth. Also composite fillings, unlike traditional fillings, bond directly to the tooth surface.

Natural Ways to Keep Your Gums and Teeth Healthy
Do you prefer natural ingredients when it comes to your healthcare? If so, there are a variety of great options that you can use in order to ensure that your gums and teeth remain healthy. However, if you do choose to use a natural product, you need to remember that it should never be a replacement for brushing and flossing, as you still need to keep up these habits in order to maintain a healthy smile.

Try Baking Soda

Baking soda is a popular option for fighting off tooth decay. While baking soda is often found in toothpastes and whitening products, many people brush with it on its own. It is a great way to remove stains from the teeth, as sodium bicarbonate can serve as an excellent abrasive.

Use Green Tea Oil

Green tea oil can help to protect your teeth from erosion. It is thought to stop starchy foods from causing your teeth to decay, and studies have shown that when people regularly drink green tea, they tend to have healthier gums than people who don’t.

Try Other Natural Oils

Natural oils like tea tree, menthol, and eucalyptol can be beneficial in keeping your mouth healthy by killing off harmful bacteria. This step is crucial in order to keep your gums from suffering inflammation. There are a variety of mouthwashes and toothpastes that contain these ingredients.
